Gifford provides 24-hour-a-day, seven-day-a-week emergency care for patients suffering acute illnesses or injuries. Emergency care is provided by experienced physicians and nurses, many of whom are highly trained, meeting rigorous standards for national certifications for emergency medicine. Some also work at area tertiary care centers to hone their trauma skills or even provide emergency medical relief in foreign nations following natural disasters.
Offering some of the lowest wait times in the nation, the Emergency Department provides timely care, often registering patients right at the bedside. Available diagnostic technology from CT scans to MRIs matches that of larger hospitals. And emergency staff works closely with Gifford surgery and inpatient caregivers as well as area tertiary care centers, including DHART (the Dartmouth-Hitchcock Advanced Response Team helicopter transportation).
