Senior Living Community

Gifford will break ground on the first phase of what will be a multi-phase Senior Living Community in Randolph Center in the spring of 2014. With stunning mountain range views and easy access to both Interstate 89 and the neighboring Vermont Technical College campus, this community is poised to be a remarkable and much-needed resource for central Vermont and its seniors.

Included in the Senior Living Community will be a new 30-bed nursing home, replacing the current award-winning Menig Extended Care Facility; up to 100 independent living apartments; and 20 assisted living units.

A new nursing homeNew Menig Extended Care
Expected to be completed late in 2014, the nursing home is the first phase of this project. This new facility will feature the same high-quality care residents and their families have grown to expect from the Menig Extended Care Facility. The experience will be enhanced with private rooms and a picturesque, rural setting for residents, many of whom have come from area farms and rural areas. The property will have acres of agricultural land, including vegetable and community gardens where fresh foods will be grown to be enjoyed by the residents. Collaborating with the neighboring Vermont Technical College and its active nursing program, the new nursing home will provide opportunities for nursing students to learn and work in their immediate neighborhood.



Independent livingIndependent Living
As our community members increasingly consider downsizing, their options locally are limited. Gifford will address some of the area’s significant need for high-quality independent living options with a state-of-the-art facility designed for the most efficient use of resources and appropriately set in our rural landscape. Initially, 40 independent living condominiums will be created under one roof. More units will be added in future years based on demand. The attractive and handicapped-accessible condominiums will range from studios to two-bedrooms. They will be owned assets, becoming part of a family’s estate, with a monthly fee. That fee will include three meals daily, house cleaning, snow removal and full enjoyment of the 30-acre property for the physical and spiritual well-being of residents. Among property amenities will be spacious community dining and living rooms to enjoy and share with family and friends, as well as community gardens, walking paths, stunning views and easy access to Vermont Technical College’s modern workout and pool facilities and large library. For some, it will be a retirement community – a purposeful downsizing as other interests rise to the forefront. For others, it will be a needed transition away from second-story bathrooms and bedrooms to a community providing a worry-free lifestyle.



Assisted living
In a later phase of construction, 20 assisted living units will be connected to, but independent of, the new Menig Extended Care Facility nursing home. These units will help fill a need for housing that provides residential assistance but not full, 24-hour nursing care. These residential services will include help with meals, personal care services and medication coordination for safe, healthy living. Assisted living units will range in size from studios to one-bedrooms with small kitchenettes for residents’ convenience. They will be owned assets with monthly fees for meals, housekeeping and personal care services. Fees will be variable, as they will depend on medical needs. Such medical needs may include mobility issues or other chronic ailments that make independent living, such as showering, dressing, preparing meals or running errands, no longer an option. For these individuals, the assisted living units will be a welcome answer to the worry that can come with limited mobility or ability, while also providing an opportunity to safely live as independently as possible in a beautiful, active and safe setting near friends and family.
