Mitch Beck

Advance Physical Therapy treated her lymphedema

Following a knee injury several years ago and then knee replacement surgery, Mitch Beck had swelling in one leg. It was lymphedema – a condition that can involve extreme swelling of an arm or leg, causing the limb to be heavy and ache. It is often irreversible and difficult to live with.

Mitch was introduced to physical therapist Amy Chiriatti of Advance Physical Therapy in Wilder. Amy earned certification and specializes in physical therapy to treat lymphedema.

Mitch spent two months working with Amy multiple times a week at the spacious and comfortable physical therapy practice. Amy wrapped Mitch’s swollen leg with layers of special compression bandages and gently rubbed her skin to activate the lymphatic system.

“She was amazing. I think the world of Amy,” Mitch says, who saw her leg swelling go down. “There was an incredible difference from when I started with her to when I ended.”

Mitch, an artist and fund-raiser from South Royalton, now manages her lymphedema at home by wearing an elastic compression garment.

“My leg looks fabulous,” she says.
