Aloha … from BethCRutland painter Ann McFarren
coming to Gifford art gallery

RANDOLPH, Jan. 14, 2010 Rutland artist Ann McFarren will hang her oil and watercolor paintings in Gifford Medical Center’s art gallery beginning Jan. 20.

McFarren has painted Vermont scenes, including landscapes and villages, for nearly 40 years.

“I can never resist the call of the back roads and where they might lead,” McFarren says.

She’s also drawn to the rugged Maine coast, teaches painting at her Rutland gallery and studio, and each year participates in juried shows throughout New England.

She’s affiliated with the Chaffee Art Center in Rutland, Southern Vermont Arts Center in Manchester, Vermont Watercolor Society, Vermont Handcrafters, Vermont Arts Council and West River Artists.

Her works hang in private collections throughout the United States, in many foreign countries and our nation’s capital. McFarren’s “Majesty in the Forest,” a 30- by 40-inch oil painting, was a chosen by a jury to go to Washington, D.C., as part of the 2007 Capitol Christmas Tree Project, when the nation’s Christmas tree was harvested from the Green Mountain National Forest in Bennington. McFarren traveled to D.C. to unveil her work, watch the tree lighting and attend an invitation-only reception at the Botanic Gardens.

“It was a trip of a lifetime and a memory I will always treasure,” McFarren says. “It was my gift to the nation and hangs in the building of the U.S. Forest Service.”

Now some of her other works are coming to Gifford. Her show continues through March 3, is free and open to the public.

Gifford is at 44 S. Main St. (Route 12) in Randolph. The gallery is just inside the main entrance to the left. Learn more about McFarren on the Web at www.annmcfarren.com.
