RANDOLPH, Oct. 16, 2009 – Free Healthier Living Workshops for chronic disease sufferers and their caregivers begin Nov. 5 at Gifford Medical Center.
Healthier Living Workshops provide individuals with arthritis, asthma, heart disease, diabetes and other chronic illnesses help with a variety of symptoms.
The six-week classes are designed to add vitality to participants’ lives. They provide tools for better dealing with frustration, fatigue and pain. They help improve strength, flexibility and endurance as well as provide help managing medications, eating healthier and improving communications with family, friends and health care providers.
Offered through the Vermont Blueprint for Health, past participants report increased energy, reduced stress, more self-confidence and fewer doctors’ visits as a result.
“These classes are really for anyone who is living with a chronic condition and hoping to improve their quality of life,” coordinator Susan Delattre said. “Living with a chronic condition can also be isolating, so this is also an opportunity to meet others coping with illness. And they’re free, which is great for participants.”
The workshops are Thursdays, Nov. 5 through Dec. 17 from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. in the Gifford Conference Center. A meeting will not be held on Thanksgiving. The hospital and conference center are located at 44 S. Main St. (Route 12) in Randolph.
Call Delattre at 728-2118 to register or for more information.
