Gifford Medical Center offers healthy cooking classesGifford Medical Center offers healthy cooking classesGifford Medical Center offers healthy cooking classeHealthy Cooking Classes begin in May

RANDOLPH, April 2, 2008 Gifford Medical Center’s outstanding team of professional chefs are once again offering Healthy Cooking Classes. The classes begin in May and are possible thanks to a Gifford Community Health Grant, which helps subsidize the cost of the classes to participants.

Gifford buys local produce and serves patients and staff healthy, fresh options that rival restaurant fare. Gifford chefs Ed Striebe and Steve Morgan, both former New England Culinary Institute instructors, last year started sharing their healthy cooking techniques with the community through these classes and with chefs Anne Finnegan and Pauline Barrett are continuing the classes in 2008.

“We are so excited about teaching these classes and helping the community realize that healthy cooking doesn’t have to be a chore nor does it have to be labor intensive,” Gifford chef Ed Striebe says. “With a little guidance and fun, we can bring the healthy cooking methods we use at the hospital to the community.”

Upcoming classes are: Homemade Pastas and Sauces on May 8, Thai Cuisine on July 10 and Seafood Cookery on Sept. 11.

The classes are from 6-9 p.m., cost $30 each and are limited to eight people. Participants will experience a hands-on workshop, will receive giveaways and get to eat what they cook during class. Students are also asked to bring notebooks to record what they learn.

The classes will fill up fast. Register today by calling 728-2373.
