Gifford raises money for March of D

The Robin’s Nest Child Enrichment Center at Gifford Medical Center in Randolph has earned National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC) accreditation for the second time. Originally accredited in 2005 for five years, the center learned last week that it had once again earned the coveted five-year accreditation.

A compassionate adult nurse practitioner with a remarkable 35 years of experience caring for Vermonters has joined Gifford Medical Center. Mary LaBrecque of North Pomfret has worked at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center in White River Junction since 1975.

Dean Mogavero of Randolph has traveled the world. Now he is sharing his snapshots from around the globe with the public at the Gifford Gallery.

Gifford Medical Center’s hospitalist program and its hospital division medical director, Dr. Martin Johns, have once again been featured in a national magazine. Gifford is held up as a success story in a cover article of the July edition of “Today’s Hospitalist” magazine titled “Success with midlevels: How does your group stack up?”

He was once 300 pounds and facing death. Today, a slim Wendell Fowler spends his time teaching others how to eat healthy, lose the weight and feel good, and he’s coming to Gifford Medical Center on Aug. 27 for a free lecture.

Two programs based on the work of Becky Bailey, Ph.D., will be offered at Gifford Medical Center on July 29. “I Love You Rituals with Infants and Toddlers” will take place from 10 a.m. to noon and “Conscious Discipline” will be held in the evening from 6-8 p.m. in the Gifford conference Center.

It wasn’t a surprise. Everyone knew it right along. How could you not? You walk in and the place is clean, beautiful and everyone is friendly, and so caring. But it was still nice to hear the governor say it: the Menig Extended Care Facility is a high quality nursing home.

Gov. James Douglas and other state officials will present Orange County’s only nursing home with two prestigious state awards for quality later this month. For a sixth consecutive year, the Menig Extended Care Facility at Gifford Medical Center in Randolph has earned the Nursing Home Quality Award from the Vermont Department of Disabilities, Aging and Independent Living (DAIL) and received a Gold Star Employer from DAIL and the Vermont Health Care Association.

Gifford podiatric surgeon Dr. Nicolas Benoit in June was elected president of the Vermont Podiatric Medical Association, a professional organization for Vermont podiatrists and a state chapter of the American Podiatric Medical Association.

An experienced certified nurse midwife with a strong commitment to the midwifery philosophy has joined Gifford Medical Center’s robust, like-minded practice. Kathryn Saunders, who previously practiced at Central Vermont Medical Center, is now seeing patients at Gifford Ob/Gyn and Midwifery in Randolph and Berlin.

Construction is slated to begin next week on the final phase of Gifford Medical Center’s ravine project.

Two Gifford Medical Center health care providers who traveled to Haiti with contingents from Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center will share their diverse experiences in the earthquake-ravaged country with the public on June 8 beginning at 5:30 p.m. in the hospital’s Conference Center.

Seventeen-year-old Krista Warner of Randolph is donating more than $1,000 to her hospital as part of her senior project.

Gifford Medical Center in Randolph has received two national honors. The Randolph medical center has been honored for excellence in marketing with a 2010 Aster Award and named among the nation’s “100 Best Places to Work in Health Care” by Becker’s ASC Review/Becker’s Hospital Review.

Brookfield resident Rebecca O’Berry has worked at both the region’s tertiary care centers – Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon, N.H., and Fletcher Allen Health Care in Burlington. Now she is putting her extensive health care leadership experience to work for her local hospital and her community.

Gifford Medical Center has welcomed an experienced new manager to oversee its extensive Radiology Department. Steven Votey has worked as a radiology technologist in the U.S. Air Force, New Jersey and then in Maine for the last 22 years.
