Advanced Illness Care and The Garden Room
Gifford has an Advanced Illness Care Team committed to providing patients with advanced or terminal illnesses and their families comprehensive, compassionate care from a multi- disciplinary care team. The team includes doctors board certified in hospital and palliative medicine, a palliative care nurse, chaplains, social services and more. The team’s goal is to improve patient’s quality of life, reduce suffering and support families.
The Garden Room is a private, garden-side suite on the hospital’s medical-surgical unit reserved for terminally ill patients and their families. The Garden Room combines the intimacy and privacy of a homelike setting with the security of knowing that doctors and 24-hour nursing staff are available to quickly address medical needs as they arise.
A motorcycle ride, the Last Mile, is held each year to support the Advanced Illness Care Team’s efforts to help patients in the last mile of their lives.
