Advanced Illness Care and The Garden Room

Gifford has an Advanced Illness Care Team committed to providing patients with advanced or terminal illnesses and their families comprehensive, compassionate care from multiple disciplines. The team includes doctors board certified in hospital and palliative medicine, a palliative care manager, nurses, chaplains, a social worker and more. The team’s goal is to improve end-of-life patient’s quality of life and reduce suffering.

The Garden Room is a private, garden-side suite on the hospital’s medical-surgical unit reserved for terminally ill patients and their families. The Garden Room combines the intimacy and privacy of a homelike setting with the security of knowing that doctors and 24-hour nursing staff are available to quickly address medical needs as they arise.

A motorcycle ride, the Last Mile, is held each year to support the Advanced Illness Care Team’s efforts to help patients in the last mile of their lives.
