Menig Extended Care Facility

The Menig Extended Care Facility, named for Howard and Gladys Menig of Braintree, opened in 1998 with 20 beds on the main Gifford campus. Ten more beds were added in 2006 to help address community need for local nursing home care. The 2006 addition also features a spacious and inviting family room. The dining room opens on to a courtyard garden and meals served in the dining room are prepared by Gifford’s expert chefs and served hot from a steam table.

The Menig facility offers Level 1 skilled nursing care, Level 2 maintenance care and is restraint free. Residents participate in a wide range of daily activities from arts and crafts to music programs, spiritual offerings, gardening, field trips and exercise classes. Residents also interact with children from The Robin’s Nest Child Enrichment Center at Gifford weekly. Often featured in local media for its creative activities and many accomplishments, Menig has received both the Gold Star Award for excellence in workplace environment and the Nursing Home Quality Award from the state for excellence in resident care. The Vermont Health Care Association has also honored both Menig’s director of nursing and charge nurse as leaders in their fields.
