|Whether you’re looking to give back to the community, stay active in retirement, build your resume or learn new skills, many volunteer opportunities are available at Gifford. Volunteers work throughout the medical center, staffing the Garden Gate Gift Shop, front information desk, helping out in various offices, visiting with residents in the Menig Extended Care Facility nursing home and much more.|
The volunteers number more than 100 and span the ages from students to retirees. Each year, well over 13,000 volunteer hours are contributed to Gifford, helping the non-profit medical center’s bottom line and bringing added warmth, experience and compassion to patients and residents.
Gifford’s Board of Trustees and many committee members are also volunteers. Gifford’s Chaplaincy Program is made up of volunteers from area churches. Each volunteer chaplain receives special training and then commits to a minimum number of shifts visiting hospitalized patients.
Volunteers are celebrated annually for their continued work at an event that includes food, friends, door prizes and a special program designed specifically for them.
Gifford also offers a Job Shadow/Internship program for qualified students in conjunction with their high schools. Adults seeking a career in medicine and the supporting services are also eligible. Job Shadow/Internship implies observing an employee’s work for a brief period of time and does not include providing a service. If you would like to be more involved in providing services, please inquire about our volunteer program.
Contact the Volunteer Services Coordinator at (802) 728-2324 to find out how you can become a volunteer or job shadow.
